Kingsbridge MOT Centre is an MOT Centre based near Kingsbridge, South Devon that specialises in Class 1& 2 MOTs (Motorcycles and Bikes) and we can arrange Class 4 & 7 MOTs (Cars, Vans and Commercial Vehicles) with our sister company South West 4x4, along with servicing and repairs for any Vehicles.


Owned by Jamie Elsmore, who was born and raised in Devon before heading off for a 10-year career as a helicopter engineer in the Royal Navy. Having returned to the South West to raise his family, Jamie turned his engineering expertise to motorbikes, cars and commercial vehicles.


Kingsbridge MOT Centre is located at Torr Trade Park, Kingsbridge next to our sister company South West 4x4.

What is an MOT?


The MOT test checks that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards. You must get an MOT for your vehicle by either: the third anniversary of its registration. the anniversary of its last MOT, if it's over 3 years old.

  • Class 1 & 2 MOT

    Class 1 - motorcycles or motorcycle combinations up to 200cc and motorcycles with not more than 4kW maximum continuous rated power and a maximum design speed up to 45km/h (28mph) - Category L1, L3 and L4


    Class 2 - all motorcycles or motorcycle combinations other than those in category L1

  • Class 4 & 7 MOT

    Class 3 Three-wheeled vehicles not exceeding 450kg ULW (excluding motorcycle combinations) - category L2 or L5


    Class 4 Three-wheeled vehicles more than 450kg ULW - category L5

    Quadricycles - category L6 or L7

    Cars and Taxis - category M1

    Minibuses, motor caravans, dual purpose vehicles and ambulances up to 12 passenger seats - category M1 or M2

    American pickups up to 6500kg DGW

    Goods vehicles not exceeding 3,000kg DGW - category N1


    Class 5 Private passenger vehicles, ambulances and motor caravans with 13 or more passenger seats - category M2 or M3

    Please note: If a goods vehicle is presented with a manufacturer’s plate and a ‘ministry plate’ the weights to be used are those on the ‘ministry plate’

  • When does my Vehicle need an MOT?

    If your vehicle is new, you must get an MOT test by the third anniversary of its registration.


    An MOT must then be carried out annually. This can be carried out a month (minus a day) before your current certificate expires.

  • Why do I need an MOT Test?

    The MOT test checks that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards.


    Vehicles that are more than three years old are legally required to take an MOT ( test every year to check it's roadworthiness.

  • What do I need to take with me to an MOT Test?

    Just your vehicle is required for an MOT however if you require new registration plates, we will require your driving licence and V5 Registration document.

  • Your car failed its MOT – what next?

    If your vehicle lists dangerous' or 'major' test result it will fail the MOT test. If this happens you will only be allowed to take your vehicle back to your registered address.

  • How does the MOT retest work?

    You only need a partial retest if you leave the vehicle at the test centre for repair and it's retested within 10 working days. There's no fee for this.

  • How long does an MOT take?

    Cars, Vans and Commercial Vehicles average aaround 45-60 minutes.


    Motorbikes can take around 35-40 minutes.

  • What happens if your car MOT is out of date?

    An MOT lasts for a year. The date it runs out is printed on your current MOT pass certificate. You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT. You can get an MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date.
